A Project Report is a Status Update

A project report can be many things involving a project, but most of the time it is to record the status of the project to upper management. These are formal documents that relate all the data and updates that are required by the staff and stakeholders of the projects so they are informed on the progress of a project.

Not every project report is at the conclusion of a project. There are many that are filed during the actual progression of a project. This is to keep all parties connected to the project informed and up to date on the project.

Components that can be in a project report include how the project is progressing as compared to the schedule. This will show if it is moving on the correct time line. Other considerations should include if the project is on track to stay within it budget.

Nearly all projects are in their budget in the early stages of it, but as closure is approached, the budget constraints are seen. By keeping track of this statistic thru out the progression of the project, there could be fewer money constraints at the end of it.

 

The data from the staffing of the project should also be mentioned in the project report. This should include the level of staffing during the different times of the project and how effective it was utilized. If more than one shift was used on the project, the different shifts can be compared to the progress they achieved and an efficiency rating can be established.

The risks that were encountered along with their impact are great interest in a project report. This section could be the reason for any delays of budgetary expenditures that might negatively affect the project.

The deliverables and its statues should be how a project report is concluded. If there is nothing to show for all the time and money spent on the project, then it would be a waste of both.

These are what should be in a project report that is being submitted by a manager. There can be many of them thru out the length of the project, but the last one should be all inclusive.
