The Responsible Project Manager

Being a responsible project manager is one of the hardest and challenging positions inside any business organization. In many cases, the project that is assigned to them could mean the difference of a company being profitable and financially sound, to bankrupting the business.

Because of this, the project manager must be a disciplined individual who has the attributes of being a leader that can make sound decisions, make use of all available tools and resources, and know how to get a project through to a successful completion stage. The biggest variable in those character traits is the proper use of tools and resources.

The project manager of today has more tools than those just a few years ago. With the advances in computers and their usage, a project manager’s job has become a little easier. There are now software programs to assist them in the planning, scheduling, execution of the project, inspection process, risk evaluation, and the closure of the project. This has become so vital that, in many cases, it is a consideration when the manager is choosing their team for the project.

A good program for a project manager will contain templates for every phase of the project. This should include one for the initiation of the business case. The scheduling is also important not only for the team members, but for allocating the necessary resources that will be needed during the project’s execution. Having a quality control system in place will help catch many anomalies that might pop up during the project, or even foresee some of them. This will help prevent delays and bottlenecks so production or progress can be maintained.

A program that assists a project manager in documenting all the necessary data and helping formulate the needed reports is a time saver. Without this part in a program, the manager will be spending valuable time away from the project, which could be crucial to completing it on time and in budget.
