Web Based Project Management Software for Project Managers
The web based project management software programs that are readily available have many features that are beneficial to the business world. Within this classification of software are two categories. There is open source programs, which most of are made available for free. There is also proprietary source code that generally charges a fee of some kind for a membership or license.
One thing both of these web based project management software programs have in common is that they are utilizing a server that is being shared by all of the users. This saves space on the user’s hard drives and their own servers, but does lead to some vulnerability if the server is not maintained properly.
As most users are aware, the web based project management software that is open source is basically a program under construction. This allows any user with the pertinent knowledge of the program to go in and change parameters on nearly anything else they feel needs changing. This process has many benefits, including the removal of bugs in the software program that will benefit all of the online users. Unfortunately, this also means the programming can change without any notification to the users.
The web based project management software that is of proprietary code is handled very differently. There are changes to the software programming, but these changes are announced before they are implemented. At no time are users surprised by unknown changes that could affect how they use the program. Most of these programs do charge a fee for accessing into them, but with this charge are advantages. There is a manned hotline where questions can be asked and the answers found.
The online help is the biggest obvious difference between these two classifications of web based project management software, along with how the program is updated. By there being a fee in association with the use of the programs, the advice and help is paid. This makes them always available because it is their job to be so. With open sourced, while their intentions are good, without payment, at times the motivation is lacking in their professionalism.
